Mission to Marianie

Hi and welcome!

By way of introduction, I am the Haiti ministry leader for Wall Highway Baptist Church (WHBC) in Madison, AL. Being a ministry leader - especially a mission ministry leader - is not something I've pursued or sought. Still, here I am - and here we go!

Our Haiti team is in full-on planning mode for our 2017 trip, scheduled for 16-22 July. Services planned for this year are a backpack medical clinic and installation of rain water collection systems (including filters from www.filterofhope.org).

In order for us to proceed, we need help.

As my wife can tell you, I am not a doctor and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, either. If a nurse is taking my blood, I turn my head. If I see blood on TV I turn my head. If someone mentions there might be a chance of seeing blood, I'll likely choose a different path (and turn my head, just to be on the safe side). So, why would someone like me set out to organize a medical mission to Haiti? The simple answer is, "It's not my idea."

There are a lot of people who travel to Haiti and other countries around the world and engage in a lot of helpful activities. In my mind, one of the things that makes faith-based missions different is that the goal(s) are not really our idea. In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus tells his followers, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

All I have done is try to answer that call. In order for me to be successful, I need to undertake particular tasks on mission. This year, those tasks include a backpack medical clinic.

That's where you come in.

If you are a doctor or nurse and would like to join us for an opportunity to deliver needed medical care to the upper community of Marianie (The image above is looking down the trail at what I refer to as lower Marianie), please contact me as soon as possible so we can discuss!

Please check back here often. I'll be adding more information as our team comes together and the mission details are confirmed.
